25
Saturday 26 September - 11 October 2020
This September, APT celebrates the organisation’s 25th anniversary with 25, an exhibition curated by APT artists, to commemorate this milestone moment in our history.
APT was founded in 1995 by a group of artists in an old textile warehouse overlooking Deptford Creek. Its mission was and still is to support creative thought and artistic vision, both in the studio, gallery and the wider community. Today APT houses 42 artist studios, a 1500sq ft gallery space, and delivers 20 free exhibitions per year with 5,200 visitors.
Over the last 25 years APT has seen significant changes to the building, the surrounding area of Creekside and Deptford and to studio artists. During this time connections have been forged within the local community and partnerships created with a number of local organisations such as, Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust, through projects such as Hearten, and Redstart Arts and Lewisham Council, a commission for the 2012 Olympics, skySCAPE.
Our Gallery programme continues to be artist led and is a combination of long standing projects such as Creekside Open, a biennial open submission arts competition, now in its 15th year; and newer projects that explore the possibilities of collaborative practice such as August Collectives.
Over 25 years we have continued to provide platforms for emerging artists by offering affordable studio space and mentoring programmes; such as Ryder Project Space and Graduate Student Programme,
25, is a celebration of our history, whilst looking forward to our future. The show will feature new work created by APT artists, which measures 25cm x 25cm (x 25cm for 3D work). Alternatively, for video or audio installations, these will be measured by time either by 25 seconds, minutes, or hours in length.
Following the exhibition, there will be a publication available in which all of the artwork will be reproduced to scale, alongside quotes and memories about APT from studio artists, Trustees and partners that have been closely involved in our journey across the last 25 years.
