APT & Fenton Arts Trust Mentoring Award
Initiated by APT Artist Member Mali Morris, the APT & Fenton Arts Mentoring Award ran from 2020 – 2024 and was funded by The Fenton Arts Trust.
The yearlong award was designed to provide space and support during the period between education and professional life, with a collaborative one-to-one mentoring relationship. The award benefitted mentees by helping them develop their practice and broadening their experience within a working studio-community/gallery-complex.
“I am so grateful for everything this award has provided.“
Lottie Stoddart, Year One Mentee
Artist development and continued learning is so important at A.P.T, and we give thanks to The Fenton Arts Trust for its commitment to supporting emerging artists. The Award was able to provide a safe space for exploration across 2190 studio days for 6 artists. It also provided interaction and conversation for the thousands of people that engaged with the mentees during annual APT Open Studios weekends and 6 weeks’ worth of exhibitions within APT Gallery, presenting new work developed during their studio time.
“APT was ideally suited to offer this Mentoring programme, with the generous support of The Fenton Arts Trust.”

The APT & Fenton Arts Trust Award was a fantastic platform upon which I have been building my artistic career in the subsequent years. The studio provided a space without financial worries; the mentoring, a touchstone for my developments and investigations; and the final exhibition, a launchpad from which many opportunities have since arisen. I am so grateful for everything this award has provided.

The Fenton Arts Trust has been delighted to be involved in funding the APT Mentoring Award scheme. Although our formal partnership has come to an end due to our policy of limiting the period of funding for each of our beneficiaries, we anticipate that our friendship will continue, and hope that future emerging artists will benefit from mentorship going forward.

Ex Chair of The Fenton Arts Trust said:
Three painter friends were among the founding members of APT and I was delighted that one of them, Mali Morris, supported this scheme from its inception and was more than willing to share her expertise and experience as one of its first mentors. The whole project has been a pleasure for me throughout, most of all at the annual shows of work, every time a fresh challenge. Long may APT and Fenton give support to each new cohort of artists. They need it, and so do we.

APT was ideally suited to offer this Mentoring programme, with the generous support of the Fenton Arts Trust. A small and supportive community of practicing artists welcomed two selected candidates every year for three consecutive years, providing the use of a studio each and regular contact with a mentor. We were particularly glad to be able begin this project during Covid-times, when life became so difficult for so many
