Which female artists inspired you growing up?
This question makes me realise just how male-oriented my early art education in Canada actually was. The famous image of Louise Bourgeois with Fillette is the only thing II can think of. But there were many writers, thinkers and filmmakers that were very important to me: Virginia Woolf, Doris Lessing, Simone de Beauvoir, Agnes Varda, Margaret Atwood, et al

What is the most important piece of advice you have been given?
If you’re not making art for yourself, you’re not making it for anyone else either
