APT remembers Clyde, John and Geoff
APT artist Mali Morris wrote this in May 2020 as an email to all at the studios, in fond memory of three painter friends.
In these strange and troubled times, I’ve been thinking a lot about three friends who died before the Corona virus interrupted everything. They had studios at APT, and were, over the years, central to its character and atmosphere, and much loved. Each had the knack – or gift – of making whoever they were talking to feel befriended, and they made us all laugh, in their own inimitable ways. We really miss them, and as the anniversary of Clyde’s death approaches, let's raise a glass to him, to John, and to Geoff, our three lovely painters, who enriched and enlivened our Creekside days, sometimes well into the late evening. The very late evening.
Clyde died on 27 May 2018, John on 12 June 2019, and Geoff on 26 January 2016
Here are a few photographs – Geoff and Clyde in Clyde’s studio at Greenwich, 1980, taken by me; Clyde on the South Downs, 2011 taken by Marilyn; Geoff, taken by Sara Hannant; John in Steve’s studio, 2010, taken by Steve – who was fabricating a sculpture to John’s design; and John at the reception for a show at Clifford Chance, of his work and mine, in 2019, taken by the late Michael Proudfoot.
And we send our love to Marilyn, Jan and Jennifer.
Happy memories...
