Not Just

Curator: Emma Yifan Wang

Artists: Cas Campbell, Emily Stevens, Mariana Mauricio, Lana Locke, Molly Grad.

Imagining the space as the female organ, including the womb, vagina, and external structures, "Not Just" is an exhibition showing diverse life experiences of five women artists—who are more than just artists. As the curator, I am learning to curate and, at the same time, curating to learn. The multifaceted dimensions of motherhood and femininity that I found in their work deepened my understanding of the character a woman could be.

It is pink,

it is punk,

it is wild,

it is a wonderland.

If my previous project, "Feral Mothers," offered an organic view of motherhood through a daughter’s lens, then "Not Just" is a continuing journey that presents the same artists from different perspectives, focusing on the transformative force within each individual. As Virginia Woolf’s words, “I am rooted, but I flow.” We will always be flowing, into different shapes — and that is who we are.

Workshop - Mythic Mothers: Healing through Art

Please join us at APT Gallery to celebrate International Women’s Day 2025, for a transformative experience in our Mythic Mothers: Healing through Art Workshop, as part of the exhibition NOT JUST, curated by Emma Wang.

The "Mythic Mothers: Healing through Art" workshop will focus on invisible force within the women with more focus on motherhood, which will offer a safe space for collective creation, therapeutic practices, and parent-child interaction, to explore our inner reflection and radical love outwards.

Date: March 9, 2025 | 2:00–4:00 PM

Venue: APT Gallery (London SE8 4SA)

Workshop design by: Roarrr Theatre
Led By: Emma Wang, Portia Yuran Li, Yuhe Tian (Tina)

Roarrr Theatre is a London-based collective reimagining mythology for modern audiences. Merging Asian folklore with Greek epics, we’ve partnered with Tate Modern and Barbican Centre on therapeutic art projects. This workshop aligns with International Women’s Day’s focus on mental health, transforming maternal narratives into sacred, actionable truths.
