A whole open mouth
‘When the absence of compression greets this shape of his, this definition anew tastes so good like a whole open mouth’
Theo Dunne’s first solo exhibition with A.P.T, A Whole Open Mouth, invites you to encounter the in-between as a permanent place of dwelling.
Through the flimsy structure of an unfinished archive detailing a local vampire frenzy, Theo builds an allegory for the transgender and grief stricken body. Their work examines the intertwining experiences of death and queerness, confronting the fear of uncertainty and demonisation of the Other.
Taking influence from a vast array of references from the 1987 film The Lost Boys to ancient folk tales, theatrical stage sets to nostalgic TV horror, Theo coins this practice ‘Trans World Building’.
From 5th to 15th December 2024, step into the mouldy opulence of this underground den populated with painted portals, shabby chandeliers and unruly lightning bolts.

Evolving from “Bona Books” to a broader platform, Bona Varda now showcases original art and photography, supporting emerging queer artists and amplifying their voices. With clients like Queer Britain and the Tom of Finland Foundation, Bona Varda is known for fostering an inclusive, welcoming space. The most recent project, “The Male Gays” exhibition at Libreria bookshop in London, challenges traditional perspectives by highlighting diverse queer voices.

Studio 1.10 Residency is a 12 month programme that provides free studio space to a visual artist wanting the time and space to explore new ways of working in a supportive and creative community. In this first year the residency was aimed at applicants who have at least 3 years of experience practicing as an artist in any media and who may not necessarily have a formal art education.
At the end of the12 months, the resident artist has the opportunity to present work in the Gallery over a 2 week period. This year the artist Theo Dunne presents the exhibition A whole open mouth.
The resident artist receives:
1 year fully paid studio
The opportunity of an end of year event/exhibition in our gallery.
Opportunities to meet relevant members in the community of APT – artists, trustees and staff
Opportunities to take part in Gallery & Programming Sub-Committee meetings and the Annual General Meeting, to gain understanding and experience of how an art charity like APT operates.
Opportunities to be involved in other APT led projects throughout the year.
