Paul Malone
My work can be most readily classified as Sci-Art, exploring lost and forgotten theories of natural philosophy. During this exploration, I emulate model-making in commentary of scientific methodology. These exemplars are often made into installations and constructions that modulate projected imagery. The projections are drawn from an extensive library of movie shorts that I have compiled over the years.
I also engage in digital art which can be presented in various formats. I am using a technique that astronomers use called ‘signal to noise extraction’. However, I am interested in the inverse, i.e. enhancing the noise to ascertain its nature. Currently (2025) I am exploring whether AI can be used in the same way.
As well as my own artwork I also engage in curatorial practice both through international exchanges and gallery-based projects. Lately these have presented exhibitions that have included professional scientists as well as artists around a common theme.
