Marcus Gayle
Growing up in Lewisham, Marcus Gayle first connected with urban blue spaces along the River Ravensbourne — walking, spending time by the water, and finding calm in places that felt distinct from the surrounding urban sprawl. In the London environment, streams, ponds, and wetlands became rare spaces of curiosity and connection to nature, shaping his belief that water should not simply be conveyed and consumed, but used to create healthier, more engaging places for people and wildlife.
That early connection led Marcus into civil and environmental engineering, where for more than a decade he has delivered nature-based flood adaptation projects across London. An award-winning SuDS designer and Chartered professional, he has helped transform grey urban corners into rain gardens, daylight culverts into wetlands, restore rivers and streams, and bring SuDS into schools and neighbourhoods where communities can experience water differently.
His work focuses on the practical benefits of sustainable drainage — reducing flood risk, cooling streets, supporting biodiversity, and improving resilience — while also creating brilliant, usable spaces that reconnect people with rivers, habitats, and each other.
Today, Marcus leads Spring Collective, working with communities and partners to build connected networks of SuDS that respond to climate change, strengthen biodiversity, and create places future generations can enjoy as part of everyday life

Nick Haseltine
Raised in the port town of Whitstable in the 1970s, Nick developed an interest in the functionality of architecture, not only the history behind the design but also how it was developed and why and what purpose it served. From an early age, Nick studied contemporary maps, watched the ships serving the local harbour and discovered the looming pit wheels and the power stations of the East Kent coalfields. These observations further fed my fascination in industrial history and design; how the associated buildings and structures not only enabled the respective industries, but also became a vital part of local social and community history.
Since qualifying as an architect Nick has been involved in numerous heritage regeneration projects, researching historical buildings, often derelict or redundant, and bringing them back into use - giving them a new life and purpose for generations to come. His passion for industrial architecture has continued to grow parallel with his job, inspiring him to research and record the industrial buildings of the world - the mills of northern England, the factories of the Midlands - the industry of the Ruhr Valley in Germany, the incredible grain behemoths of the Great Plains and Lakes in the US.
Nick's life is dominated by the architecture, which in turn dominates landscapes around the world - Nick conserve them as buildings and celebrates them in photography, printed and published form.
