Lou Smith
Lou Smith’s artistic expression spans the realms of painting and photography, driven by a deep fascination with light and colour. Whether through the layered hues of her abstract paintings or the nuanced observations of her photography, she seeks to reveal the inherent beauty within the everyday. Her work invites contemplation, transforming ordinary moments into visual experiences that resonate with depth and emotion.

Her paintings have been filmed for an independent production for Channel 4, and for Lewisham College. Lou opens her studio to the public every year as part of APT Open Studios.
Since 1990 Lou Smith has delivered specialist art projects and visual arts subjects in Adult Education and Colleges. She has also delivered workshops for the Whitechapel Art Gallery, APT Trust and schools throughout London.
Lou Smith graduated in 1981 with a First Class BA Honours Degree in Fine Art Painting. Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, Lou has lived and worked in London since 1978. She has been a member of APT since 1995.
