APT LIVE 2016 | 23, 24 and 25 September 2016
Passage | Wall Installation
Friday from 6pm to 8pm
Saturday from 2pm to 6pm
Sunday from 2pm to 6pm
A concept installation devised in response and contribution to APT Open Studios 2016.
The idea is for a corridor in the building to become the art work by the intervention of a selected familiar functional object.
‘Open’ Studios is the key in this work.
The corridors being the ‘passage’ into the studios are plain industrial and quite anonymous in appearance.
On one side of the corridor the studio doors have little individuality with similar brown boarded fronts and utility aluminium contract door handles. They all open outwards and to the left and will be open during the exhibition, extending the passage into the studios.
On the other side, the white painted brick walls have no doors yet will have the intervention of precisely placed, similar left opening utility aluminium contract door handles, suggesting doors that won’t open, yet allow an imaginary ‘passage’ into imaginary studios with imaginary contents or empty spaces.
A simple visual interactive pun, paradox and parody on ‘Open Studios’, among the other layers of interpretation.
‘When doors won’t open, others will, in your mind.’
